Summer Feeding Program for At Risk Youth
Summer Feeding “Public funding is necessary to provide summer programs for low income children and the level of involvement needs to be increased to ensure low income children access programing and summer meals.” According to the 2017-summer-nutrition-report-1. Poverello is doing its part by partnering with Living Hungry and the South Florida Hunger Coalition, we’re providing weekly summer backpacks with 5,000-8,000 calories for 100 at risk youth and their siblings in Belle Glade, Riviera Beach and Lake Wales. The program works with Youth Empowerment Centers that provide weekday programming (including lunches), giving backpacks that keep kids fed over the weekend in resource poor neighborhoods surrounding the centers. With the passing recently of our founder, we agreed with his remaining family to put resources donated to the center in his name into Youth Feeding programs. You can be a part by donating today!
