CORPORATE DRIVE
Spread the Word

Announce your Drive and Goals. Let participants know the dates of your drive as well as your financial and food poundage goals.

  • Email blasts are a great way to let people know your drive is starting
  • Include a link to the Poverello Virtual Food Drive in email and written communications
  • Let participants know where barrels are located

Distribute Promotional Cards to participants. These cards are the perfect way to let participants know how they can get involved. There are many ways to distribute these cards:

  • Include one in employee paycheck envelopes
  • Distribute in mailboxes or leave one at each person’s desk
  • Include in students’ weekly envelopes sent home to parents

Encourage financial donations through the Virtual Food Drive. The Virtual Food Drive is one of the simplest and most effective ways to donate to the Food Bank. It’s easy, fun, and can be done right from your desk. Donations are credited immediately to your drive without any extra paperwork.

  • The Virtual Food Drive allows participants to see how far the Food Bank can stretch their dollars. Users have an online shopping experience while learning how much more Poverello can purchase than they could at the store.

Place Food and Fund Drive promotional materials in high traffic areas. Place barrels, posters, and coin cans in reception areas, break rooms, cafeterias, and classrooms.
Track your progress in a fun and prominent way. Let your participants know how they’re doing towards their goal. Post signage in public areas and send out reminders to let people know how much they have accomplished and what they have left to do to succeed.
Organize a group volunteer opportunity to come to the Poverello Food Bank and sort food. It’s a great team building activity and allows participants a chance to see the Food Bank and get more involved.

SCHOOL DRIVE IDEAS
Below are some examples of what schools have done in the past to raise to make their Food and Fund Drives successful.

  • Organize a hunger banquet.
    For details visit
    http://www.hungerbanquet.org/.
  • Teach a unit on nutrition and hunger and encourage students to educate their peers, neighbors and families on the effects of malnutrition. This is a great way for youth to understand the disadvantages that low-income students have when it comes to food choices and healthy eating behaviors.
  • Ask students and their parents to participate in the Virtual Food Drive. This online giving “game” is a way that students can learn about how far Poverello can stretch each dollar donated. It can also be used as a math lesson!
  • Find out how much the average student’s lunch costs and consider donating that amount to The Poverello Food Bank. Since Poverello can leverage a dollar better than the average consumer, we can provide 10 meals with just $20.
  • Have a food collection or virtual food drive competition between classes or clubs and reward the winners with a party.
  • Create and sell a cookbook with low cost and healthy meals - donate the proceeds to Poverello.
  • Hold a “penny war” between classes and donate the funds collected to Poverello Food Bank. Provide incentives or prizes to the winning class.
  • Host a bake sale or a yard sale and donate the proceeds to Poverello Center.
Poverello Food Bank can also provide you with talking points related to the work we do to alleviate hunger. We may also be able to provide you with a guest speaker, if you are interested.

CONGREGATION DRIVES IDEAS
Here are some examples of what congregations have done to raise funds for their Food and Fund Drives.

  • Promote a fast. As you fast remember those for who hunger is not a choice, but a fact of life. Donate the money you would have spent on a meal to Poverello Food Bank.
If you prefer, collect a special offering for Poverello instead of sponsoring a fast.
  • Take up a second collection during services.
  • Host an empty bowl event.
    For more information visit
    www.emptybowls.net
  • If your congregation hosts bingo, consider holding a game where all of the proceeds are donated to Poverello Food Bank. Everybody wins!
  • Set up an area with information about local hunger and a coin can for people to make free will donations during coffee hour. Poverello can provide you with special coin collection cans.
  • Challenge your youth group to make a difference! Youth groups can host car washes, pancake breakfasts, bake sales, simple soup suppers or any other fundraising events to help alleviate local hunger today!

Poverello Food Bank can provide you with talking points related to the work that we do to alleviate hunger. We are also able to provide you with a guest speaker.
