“Bagging a Turkey”
A Donation of $14.57 Bags a Turkey

Each client will receive a turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and the works. The meals are fully funded by generous donations from individuals ,not government or other funding.

Certain days have special meaning. Most “Holidays” bring forth a religious sentiment. Thanksgiving, however has a different sense – Macy Parade, Pioneers, Pumpkins, Turkeys, a day that each one looks for a family get together. Perhaps
more than any other Thanksgiving is a day for family, for a special meal, a time when each one of us looks for a gathering
that makes us feel at home, a part of family.

This feeling of belonging is so important that we all want to be part of it. Each year we seek out someone, some group,
some organization, that will open its doors and we can open our hearts. Yes Thanksgiving brings out the best in all of us.
In this community we have a part of humanity that is in need, and who all too often is ostracized, disowned, and swept
under the rug so to speak. More and more we come up against a wall of indifference, a wall of haughty supremacy or
which is even worse a time of self imposed blindness. In this world we are able to salve our conscience and inoculate our
sensitivity so that we can be indifferent to others and seek our selfish existence only.

While this might be the thoughts of many, I want to tell you how proud I am each year at this time, you the friends
of Poverello make me most thankful. Why? Simply, you teach me a lesson that is vitally important. While others, too
often the clergy rant and rave that people who make up the Poverello Family deserve to be in their state in life, they are
responsible for their plight, listening to them makes you wonder if they have any sanity. Who in their right mind would
make themselves sick? Through all of this nonsensical verbiage, this heartache and pain, you my friends confirm me in
my vocation and my love of life and people. You open your hearts and wallets and help us to let our Poverello Family
know there are people who care. The generosity of all of you makes my vocation so much easier. It isn’t because of one
religion or another, one’s wealth or lack thereof; you have a heart, to see a need and want to be a part of the solution.

All of you have the right to feel a certain satisfaction knowing that people whom you don’t know are able to rejoice in
life and love because the warmth of your heart has made the strength of their heart beat a little stronger and longer.
